As I was desperately scouring the internet marketplaces searching for a chest/case for my big detachable bell tubas so I could take one to tuba Xmas, as well as looking for bags to carry bells in, I thought it might be nice to have the measurements of the bodies/recording bells available to anyone who needs the dimensions since this was very time consuming. This is especially useful for making your own cases, packing them, getting boxes, or finding steamer trunks for storage. I also did some fun side by side comparisons. I don't stand by the accuracy of these, as it was done with a crude approximation and a measuring tape, but it should be pretty close and/or helpful to somebody, somewhere, someday.

Re: dimensions of big detachable bell tubas
Making sense of the measurements, is standard bell dimension the diameter? And bell width how tall the bell is face down?
I'll keep an eye out for things that could serve.
I think i have come across cases for Kings and Reynolds off hand, but they are a notch smaller.

Taylor Music's cases will fit a top-action Martin Mammoth and its recording bell. They'll ask you for the dimensions of your horn and will adjust some of the interior elements to fit. They are not light or cheap, but they fit well and are well built.

Yes on both questions. Old old conn cases resemble steamer trunks, so im hoping to score one someday! Anyone know what cases the Holton detachables came in?humBell wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 10:51 pm Making sense of the measurements, is standard bell dimension the diameter?
