Re: Ann Arbor: Newer Style King 2341

A pound of green gunk -- NASTY! :smilie3:

For that matter, I've only encountered a few old 2341's or 1241's.

One was a player in a community band from long ago (sounded pretty good). Another was at a music store, and I was really surprised at how much sound it would put out, and how agreeable it ...

Re: Ann Arbor: Newer Style King 2341

Somehow, I've never had a chance to try one of these.

20+ years ago, I considered buying one right after college, because I simply needed to buy a tuba for myself. But, since I had played (a school owned) CC tuba through college, I kind of stayed in that lane.

The only time I've seen one in use ...

Re: WTB: Miraphone 188 hardcase

MTS is most common. I forget what model number, but it shouldn't be hard to look it up.

Jakob Winter -- I believe -- is the supplier for Miraphone hard cases.

If you want to get fancy about it, Kariso makes some really beautiful cases.

for you southerners, take note the town in Colorado is pronounced “Lewis-ville” and not the Kentucky gravelmouthed “Luhvuhl.”

Sincerely,

Re: Pretty close to the truth

Of course, if you run the same search multiple times, you get different answers each time. And after a while, it gives you gold nugget nonsense like this:

Tuba Philosophy: He frequently critiques "5/4" labeling as subjective and often inaccurate, noting that sizes should only be considered ...

Pretty close to the truth

I typed "bort2.0 tuba" into my phone's search bar. Here is the AI summary which is pretty close to true. (I never sold that old 181 to Joe.)

I was particularly disappointed to learn that I am not a brand of tuba, though.

Based on discussions from TubaForum.net, "bort2.0" is a prominent user on ...

Re: National Symphony Orchestra of the Kennedy Center Principal Tubist

Amtrak is pretty good, exactly as you mentioned... as long as the tracks take you close enough to where you're going. Most of the time when I lived in NYC, I worked for companies based near Boston (but not _in_ Boston). Occasionally I would take the train, but usually I would just fly... And then ...

Re: National Symphony Orchestra of the Kennedy Center Principal Tubist

DC is ok. I grew up in Baltimore, and went to DC a few times per year, so it we were quite desensitized to it. I went to college even closer to DC, and by that point didn't go all that much.

I don't hate it, but I've never wanted to live there. Or maybe, the parts where it would be cool to live are ...

Just finished the book THE PERFECT TUBA. Interesting read....thoughts from others who have read this?

Not yet, but it's on my radar.

Who was the person "who tried to corner the nation's tuba market."?

Re: Burma Shave

My brother and I drove cross country in 2004. We went quickly through the eastern part, because it would be easy to get back there. Went more slowly through the western part, since it was more interesting.

Drove along some stretches of old 66. It was the week after Christmas,.so it wasn't too hot ...

Re: FS: 3/4 Rudy Meinl C Tuba

Any chance this could have been one of Pat Landolfi's Rudy's? He had a pair of the 3/4's. I remember the unique 3rd slide pull, unless they all had that. Pure, clear sound with plenty of projection.

I'm not sure. Horn was owned by Matt Gaunt prior to the person I bought it from.

RIP Neal Sipe

I'll post more later, but I just learned that we've lost Baltimore tuba player Neal Sipe. Happened a few months ago, but I just found out about it.

A wonderful man, must have been close to 90 years old. I played alongside him in several bands for about. 5 or 6 years in the early 2000s

Some of the ...
