Trial a set of maw valves
I really wish there was a way to trial a set of MAW valves. I know they aren't a magic bullet that will solve all problems, but I do wonder how they'd impact the low range and flexibility on my Eastman 836. I just don't want to blow 1250 if I end up not looking them out not thinking they make a ...

FS/FT Eastman 836
Hey everybody,
I'm entertaining the idea of trading or selling my Eastman 836, but mostly interested in selling.
I love my horn, especially following the modifications it received from Matt Walters. This was one of the first batch of this horn in the states, bought from that first batch of 4 at ...

Re: Paid a visit to CHI Brass, this weekend
I met Ian down at the army workshop this year. Great guy! Sold me on a cooley 3. He had a really strong assortment of mouthpieces for me to try and really helped with finding which worked best.

Re: What was your favorite horn in the elephant room at the army workshop?
Second place would be a close race between the Siermann Arthur F (I think? The silver f they had) and the 2250 buffet brought along.
6 valve rotary F - Arthur
5 Piston valve F - Mars
Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! Still trying to keep these model names straight myself ...

Re: What was your favorite horn in the elephant room at the army workshop?
I was actually really excited to play it. Honestly, it just didn't feel good to me. The rotors felt pretty loose to my hand, and the size of sound didn't match the size of the horn. Maybe that will get sorted before production, though. The California F they feature now is very different to my ...

That Willson felt like such a monster. Every note spoke so well and felt so solid.

What was your favorite horn in the elephant room at the army workshop?
So far, of what I've tried, I really loved the smaller Willson Eb that Baltimore Brass brought along. The 3400s I think? That thing puts out an incredible sound, although being a little awkwardly shaped. I think I would've liked it even more if I had any idea how to play Eb tuba, but I managed to ...

SOLD FS: Mr. P 6.5 Signature
For sale is this Mr. P 6.5 Signature. Light insertion marks from me using it for a week or two while deciding on mouthpieces. This is a wonderful example of the 65 style mouthpiece, and I liked it a lot. It was the winner for me, in fact, until a dark horse came into the picture.

Re: Miraphone 181 Family Discussion
My one big experience with the Elektra was overwhelmingly positive. So much so, in fact, I still think about it quite often. At the time, I actually wasn't a fan of how easy it felt. I remember thinking, "it feels like this horn is playing me. Everything is so effortless." That sensation made me ...

Thank you for the offer! I have been down that way a couple times, but not often. I'll definitely keep it in mind!

Mouthpiece recommendations
Hello all!
I plan on attending the army workshop in February, where I would like to try several different mouthpieces on my new (to me) f tuba, a Meinl Weston 2250TL. I have so far tried a Giddings Kronos, an rt65, a Mr. P 6.5, and a Laskey 28k. The Kronos didn't feel like it gave the warmth I was ...

Re: Shipping...
Sure, that might have been a factor, but reading reviews rigorously to find ground couriers that can transport fragile and valuable things was a big part of it. Vetting the courier is, I would guess, more important than luck in this case. The courier that shipped my tuba has an insanely good track ...
