Mouthpiece recommendations

Post by thedancingsousa »

Hello all!

I plan on attending the army workshop in February, where I would like to try several different mouthpieces on my new (to me) f tuba, a Meinl Weston 2250TL. I have so far tried a Giddings Kronos, an rt65, a Mr. P 6.5, and a Laskey 28k. The Kronos didn't feel like it gave the warmth I was looking for, despite working really well on my previous horn. It felt sterile, if that makes sense. The 28k and the 65 variants all felt very similar, with a slight edge to the Mr. P. The 28k felt too small for me, so I do wonder if one of the larger Laskey K mouthpieces would feel better.

All that said, I would like to try many more. I'm happy with the 6.5 for now, but I don't often get chances to try things and would like to focus my efforts. So, what kind of mouthpiece would you suggest for a large, piston F tuba? I'd like to compile myself a list of recommendations just to see where it takes me. Thanks in advance!

If you're ever down in CT, I have the full Sellmansberger Solo line and all the different back bores as well as a few rims that you're welcome to try out. I really like those.

Thank you for the offer! I have been down that way a couple times, but not often. I'll definitely keep it in mind!
