Re: FS: A plethora of mouthpieces

info:

Cornucopia and plethora both denote a large amount, but with different connotations. A cornucopia implies a bountiful, diverse, and positive supply (like a feast or variety of options). A plethora signifies a large or excessive amount, which can sometimes imply a negative, overwhelming, or ...

Re: vitamin E, frequency response, and cute curves

Rick Denney Wrote:
"But there is no carrier frequency or heterodyne reception in a tuba. The lips produce frequencies in the range of maybe up to 20 KHz, most of which is attenuated out because the tuba only resonates harmonic frequencies with any."

if there is no carrier, then how do we define the ...

Re: "Mass/weight changes how a brass instrument mouthpiece plays an instrument."

Here's another hypothesis that I think may apply to heavywall mouthpieces as well as other gizmos:
There's an analogy between radio transmitters & receivers and brass instruments. We could view a brass instrument/player/mouthpiece as a tuned circuit. With my ham radio gear, the transmitter feeds ...

Arguably the most recognizable member of the Gentrys was JIMMY HART, who went on to fame in professional wrestling.

Re: Why should or shouldn’t I renew my ITEA membership?

Since ITEA has become primarily an ACADEMIC organization, it should come as no surprise that it has adopted academic definitions of diversity, which are quite limited in scope. Another facet of the academic world is a disdain for merit.

Some of you may have seen my FB post about how things like ...

Re: Why should or shouldn’t I renew my ITEA membership?

We need competitions that are relevant to the actual, realistic chances of most of the competitors' musical futures. Honesty. Diversity. Inclusion. We need a Bake-Off.

This could foster the competitive spirit while not bruising any of those arrogant, little egos we seem to be producing more and ...

"Made friends for the tuba" more than anything that Jan Bach wrote for tuba.
Not that I mind Jan Bach; his stuff is what it is, with limited appeal.

Re: Shoulder replacement

I had a full reverse replacement in late April. Any pain I have had is muscular, not in the replacement.
(I tried to post a pic but couldn't.) After two months, I have regained a lot of range of motion and have been cleared to pick up my horn and my rather large-for-his-age grandson. I am doing a ...

Re: Why should or shouldn’t I renew my ITEA membership?

I was looking at some YouTube videos of HBCU "sousaphone battles" when my grandson came in the room. He was mesmerized by the audio and video and asks for "tuba-tuba" when the TV is on.

It struck me that this type of tuba playing has "made more friends for the tuba" than any college tuba recital or ...

Re: Why should or shouldn’t I renew my ITEA membership?

At the risk of offending some, here's another personal opinion:

ITEA touts its love of "inclusivity." Does it practice what it preaches? Are high school students included? Are amateur players included? Are beginners included? Are band directors included? Are community band players included? What ...
