When you get older you will wish you had these instruments, but you will have additional responsibilities and no longer have the means to procure them.Dallastuba1 wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 10:49 am Now I am an old man of 30 years old and just don't have a reason to hang on to this.

Any chance this could have been one of Pat Landolfi's Rudy's? He had a pair of the 3/4's. I remember the unique 3rd slide pull, unless they all had that. Pure, clear sound with plenty of projection.

Pat Landolfi played one in New Jersey for years with laserlike precision, I believe he owned two of them.
Could this be one of them? I remember that unusual slide pull, unless RM put that on many of their horns.

Re: nice shots of Booker T. and Steve Cropper (Sam & Dave - Soul Man)
As an electric bass player, when I see a clip of someone going to town with technique, my first question is, "Yes, but can he support a band." Duck Dunn could support a band. I remember reading contemporary interviews, as published in Guitar Player Magazine (before it split to Bass Player Magazine ...

If you're going to own an Alexander contrabass tuba, BBb is the way to go. Just my opinion...

WTB 4 valve King body, no bell
Maybe looking to buy an old style King 2341 or 1241 body without the bell. I have a good 19" detachable bell, but the body I received was in rough condition and further damaged in shipping.
Anybody have a headless King they are looking to part with?

Why the change from stainless to brass? Just curious.
I played stainless for the past two decades but have recently been using a goldplated brass Mr. P 5.0 because that is what works best for that horn and situation. The 5.0 is the latest "evolution" in this style mouthpiece and only comes in ...

Re: What did you play today?
Yesterday I played the Reiche Abblasen fanfare on my old BBb King for a senior center open mic, followed by a rubato Amazing Grace. I first heard Abblasen on the Canadian Brass "High, Bright, Light, and Clear" CD and later on the CBS Sunday morning news programs before church. This may be ...

Practice mutes revisited
Yes they are evil. However, when the only alternative is buzzing in the car, they are better than no practice. I see Yamaha has a new version of their Silent Brass that costs more than my current tuba. What else is currently out there, that may be more affordable? I have built several mutes over the ...

Re: C tuba for college
There are a few remarkably in tune models built C length, and/but when there is a B flat version built by the same manufacturer in the same size, the tuning characteristics often (not always) seem to be a little bit easier to manage. I tend to wonder if building instruments C-length (which are ...

WTB 2nd valve ring with flange, .687-.689 preferably
I would like to buy two (but I would settle for one) 2nd valve pull ring with flange. Something off a .687-.689 bore horn would be ideal, but I could make it work either way.
These will go on the top two 3rd valve slides on an older King 1240 tuba.

Re: V. F. Cerveny and Synove 3/4 F Tuba w/ Gig Bag $2700
These little Cerveny F tubas are the perfect recital horns! And I personally like the left hand "thumb" valve because it lets you wrap your fingers around and hold the tuba better than with a left hand finger paddle.

Re: Mammoth Mouthpieces
A Conn2/UMI 2/ Helleberg II/ FC Helleberg seems to work well on them. A medium funnel that isn't as deep as an original helleberg.
