Please help a new old guy with his first 4 valve tuba...
I tooted any first tuba in 1957 - fifth grade, in France. A sousaphone on a stand. I was too small to support it my self.
FAST FORWARD to 2025, you count the years, and now I have a new tuba with 4 of the rotary valves. I understand that the 4th key is used in place of fingerings 1-3, and 1-2-3 ...

Re: How many tubas and euphoniums does a 50 or 60 piece wind band really need?
My thinking is that bands, especially community bands, are for participation and camaraderie. They also may attendantly serve a musical purpose or have a mission. One of my favorites, Soli Dio Gloria out of Chicago has more euphoniums, baritones, and tubas (as well as other instruments) than you can ...

Deal or no deal? Thinking about a Tiny Tuba !
Looking at a Wessex "jazz tuba" at a retailer in the Baltimore area. I don't know that we are allowed to use names, so I won't.
To be sure, who sells it is NOT the issue. I was able to play this "very small" tuba and found it intriguing. I do not generally play jazz unless a form of it is in my ...

Best Way to Repair Crack in Tuba Case Exterior
I have a small 5" line (crack) running from the bell end of my case back. It is a clean, linear, though not straight, line. What is the best way to repair this? Should I fill the crack with Gorilla Glue and then cover it with strong duct tape, or should I just cover it with duct tape? Something else ...

Is there a real advantage to TUBA stand?
Is there a real advantage to a tuba stand? I am not talking about the kind that you use while playing, I use the corner of my chair, rather a cradle (perhaps that is the better name) to place it in when you are not playing.

Do they make a "tuba" chair?
So, this question came out of a point made in one of my previous discussions. Turns out turning my chair sideways gives me a tip of space to balance my horn on while playing in church. So, I wonder - does anyone make a chair that is slight,y longer than it is wide - to allow for more space. Instead ...

Tofu - it has been my experience that janitors and the secretaries in the office actually run the schools.... Be nice to them and good things happen.

Re: Need advice from Yamaha 201/321 players
Much thanks... Today I turned my chair 1/4 turn and balance my horn on the exposed corner in front of my legs. It worked well. I will still experiment with the stand. The tuba played well in both rehearsal and practice. I was very pleased. In fact, several people commented on the good bass section ...

Need advice from Yamaha 201/321 players
My first serious practice with my new (used) Yamaha YYB201SS did not go as well as I hoped it would. The water valve kept dripping on my left leg, and I had to reposition it several times. It has a new cork but that doesn't seem to help. The ring on the left rear of the horn, which I surmise is used ...

Well above my pay grade - bravo!
I get so nervous when solo parts come my way. Sometimes I nail them in practice and nerve up in front of the audience.

Well, Bloke, thanks for the "whatever it cost" disclaimer. Mine are on the cheap end - a Yamaha 201 and a Jupiter 378.
They do the job.... I do not intend to keep the Jupiter.
I am starting to realize after years of playing horns supplied by schools that being a tubist is a rich man's sport.

Re: Hard cases with wheels.
I had one case, Jupiter, where one of the wheels lost a chunk. The tuba sounded like a helicopter rolling down the hall. With the new tuba, a Yamaha, (yeah I know you don't like them) I have a new wheeled case. Your advice seems prudent.

Re: predomination/preference by country (Could this actually become an interesting B flat versus C thread?)
in elementary, high school, and college the BBb predominated. I did play an Eb for a while. Decided I only want to learn one set of fingerings. The man I bought my latest horn from said that C predominate amount professional players. I do NOT know how the F fits in. Disclaimer: I am a hobby player ...

A easy question about a tuba in the pit
In our church orchestra we play three selections and head out to the pews for the service. About 45 minutes later we return to our seats for a final song and/or any specials.
