Howard Johnson played with the NDR big band in Germany for a few years. He quite suddenly decided to leave the job when he realized he didn't remember a single note from the previous night's concert. It wasn't memory deficit or "Biden disease", but that the music-making had turned into time-clock-punching for him. Not very different than my DisneyWorld summer gig waaaay back when, where we played 10 tunes pretty much all summer. Showed me the part of the music bidness I did *not* want to pursue.
