Jimi Jamison (??) (a singer, NOT a bass player) lived about a block east of me for a while...

...but the picture of the kid on the bike is this guy:
(He grew up about a mile south of the University of Memphis (Memphis State University).

These days, if I drove down the main north/south street- which gives access to Duck Dunn’s old neighborhood, I would try to drive at least 55 mph on that street and time all the lights to be green…
… but I just don’t think I would go down there, period.

Indeed. Many songs. Many arrangements. Many gigs over the decades. Always crowd-pleasers as well as great bass lines and great songs.

Here are two items often overlooked in Duck Dunn's lines:
1) Simplicity. He strived for what supported the song and no more, sometimes doing a second take to simplify it even further. The space between notes was as important, if not moreso, than the actual notes.
2) The feel. If you try to play note-for-note and obsess over those notes, you will lose it. For example, on "Soul Man," you gotta bounce the line. If you overthink it, you will get rigid, fall behind the groove and completely #### it up. If on the otherhand, you flow and bounce the groove with a good drummer, you can play it all night, the crowd will dance to it all night, or clap along, and the song will shine, whatever the instrument you are playing it on.
