Seller seems legit. Nice price. I’d be there in a heartbeat.

I’ve been communicating with the guy since yesterday trying to set up a time to meet this weekend… We’ll see what happens.

I know… I owned one of them previously with bad intonation. I can’t seem to get a response from this guy after yesterday about the serial and the pitch.
I won’t buy it if it is hard to play in tune. My other one was horrid.

At that price, if it’s a stinker, I would seriously consider harvesting the valveset to use in an Eb conversion build and offering up the body and bell to other frankentubists to recoup some of the cost.

That’s the other thought. Nice piston set on a York body, perhaps?

Update
I’ll be going to play it tomorrow.
Honestly, I really hope I leave with it.
I wanted to love my previous 2141 so much, and just couldn’t.
I’ll let you know what ends up happening.

Re: Meinl-Weston 2141 Eb $2,500 (Kenosha, WI/FB)
Just what were the pitch issues with the early MW2141 Eb tubas? I only tooted one briefly when they came out and only remember the Bb atop the staff was flat.
$2500 is quite cheap for any 4 or 5 valved Meinl Weston in very good/great condition, no matter what model....
If this is a later model with supposed better pitch, then that price is a real steal of a deal

Re: Meinl-Weston 2141 Eb $2,500 (Kenosha, WI/FB)
The issues were myriad with mine.
Open Eb’s below staff and 3rd space were ~25c apart. If one was in tune, the other wasn’t. And yes, I warmed it up to “operating temp” and spent plenty of time messing with slide positions and such.
First valve F was flatter than a pancake all in.
1-2 C was also very flat all in but 3 wasn’t much better.Yes, open Bb was flat, an so was the G below it. There was more. I just didn’t own it long enough to deal with it.
This one looks like one of the later “fixed” versions. From what I can tell, the older ones had a fixed thumb ring, lyre holder on the mouthpipe, and a straighter mouthpipe bend. They also had strap rings on the back.
This one has the adjustable ring, the slightly different mouthpipe bend, and no strap rings. All signs pointing to the newer version. I’m bringing 3 mouthpieces of various sizes with me. I don’t know if the newer ones were American shank or not, but my old one was Euro.
I’ll confirm today. He said there’s a ton of interest (obviously, at this price), but I reached out to him first. So, I’ll be going over there about 11:30 my time. It’s about an hour away.
If I do buy it (and I probably will), expect to see some of my other stuff for sale as it will add a lot of redundancy to my stable.
Again, I really hope I do. I wanted to love the old one so badly. When I was younger, I passed up on not one, but two of these, and a Pt-22. On paper, a 4+1 Eb is a great instrument for someone like me. I’m excited to see if this one can check the boxes.
