Tuba Tuesday: Stratton NY Eb upright Contrabass Saxhorn

Post by bisontuba »

This Tuba Tuesday the Museum features a Saxhorn, this one made by the celebrated maker John F. Stratton of NYC. It is a brass upright Contrabass Saxhorn in Eb with 3 Berliner Pumpen valves. Stratton was a manufacturer and as well as an importer of brass musical instruments, and he was a huge supplier during the Civil War. NOTE: This instrument is from after the CW era. You can recognize this by not having a bell garland and by having a water key on the instrument.
