Tuba Mouthpiece Comparator

Post by iiipopes »

You may have heard about the trumpet mouthpiece comparator at https://trumpet.cloud/mpc/ which posts cross-section scans of trumpet mouthpieces for comparison sake.

The owner of the comparator is now adding tuba and trombone/euphonium mouthpieces. Now, it is of limited use, because we all know how much throat diameter and backbore lend to the actual tone of any particular mouthpiece. But it is interesting to see exactly how mouthpieces compare. The comparator has a goodly number of classic and popular mouthpieces already scanned. Don't be disappointed if you don't see your mouthpiece, because eventually and probably it will be scanned in later, as the owners are good about periodic updating. You can always pay to have your mouthpiece scanned, but I wait for others to do that.

For example, I was able to compare the classic Conn Helleberg and Bach 18 cup geometry to my Denis Wick Aaron Tindall AT3UY. Not much difference on screen, but major differences tonally.

Cool.. It looks like they just imported the models that already exist for free in VennCad.. but for quick comparisons it is faster than getting out the macbook to open it up.
As amateur as they come...I know just enough to be dangerous.

Man, my eyes are showing their age! I read "Tuba Mouthpiece Compactor" and wondered what I'd missed in the time I've been away.
