Played the Morgan Freeman Symphonic Blues Experience the other night. Great show! Mr. Freeman did a short Q$A with our CEO, his band was phenomenal, and we were joined by the legendary Taj Mahal at the end!

This was posted on reddit the summer this forum started by the photographer. I've gotten way too much mileage out of it, including it in a response to my high school alumni magazine where i profusely apologized for wasting my education. They told me they would not publish the apology, but did i have a higher resolution copy of the photo? Next year i chided them for giving me the impression i was better seen and not heard.

To be fair at a subsequent alumni event i heard there was a framed copy of the picture in the alumni department office, and i was apparently something of a legend.

I kind of thought it looked like New Hampshire. The mountains there are pretty incredible.

Back before I was married and I was living in Baltimore, I drove up to the mountains in NH/VT "just because" for a few days around my birthday. I left very early on a Thursday, met a friend in NJ for lunch, stopped by Dillon music to chat with Matt (first time I met him, maybe?) and then up through NYC and into the good parts. Spent the night in Montpelier, and was surprised that it had taken about 5 hours to get from the city up there. The next day, I hiked around the White Mountains until about 4pm, drove home and arrived after midnight, then up at 7am to go tailgate at a college football game.

I probably should have stayed up there a little longer, it's a beautiful place.

I didn't bring a tuba though.

It is indeed typically breezy up there.

Fond memories of bringing a bell front baritone, and trying to work out with a friend the wind speed from the doppler effect observed due to playing with or against the wind.

Randy -- I remember meeting you in the late 90s at Dave Weiner's 'Brass Arts Unlimited' out in Rosedale or something. I had him restore an Olds 99 that was missing a valve. Did a great job on it. I think you were hanging out in the shop and playing horn and chatting with Dave when I was there.

All those years in the same city, and that's the only time I think we met.

My HS band director gave me the tuba, if I promised to get it repaired and use it (which was fine, I wanted to do that anyway). I graduated HS in spring of 1998, and pretty sure I dropped it off there with Dave before I headed down to College Park for school. So... summer of 1998.

Truth be told, this guy hasn't experienced a lot of facetime lately, but it's time for another John Williams pops, and this guy's the closest thing - sonically - I have to the Miraphone 185 that was originally used to play the Jaws theme.



Oh yeah...The obligatory yet truthful "My F tuba is better than yours" probably belongs here. (The SECRET is the 44 years of patina, along with an interior lining of magical spit.)

Actually, my comment on Facebook was "It's time - once again -.to play out of tune with the French horns."
