Here is a simple solution and you can fit it down the bell of your tuba.

Re: Chair too low?
Umm ... I tried to put a chair in my tuba once and it just wouldn't fit.Mark wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 7:41 pm Here is a simple solution and you can fit it down the bell of your tuba.
A decent floatation "boat cushion" is perhaps more effective and not difficult to transport.
But ... Nice woodworking job!

Or a blow-up cushion -- but those are too much of a pain to use and I've never found one that works well.Mary Ann wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 11:25 am You have to admit though, that the boat cushion down the bell probably won't fit either. Maybe a folding boat cushion would.
My approach to "large instrument gear" (which includes stuff for tubas and bass trombones -- which in some ways are the worst because of the issue of multiple large mutes) is to use a large Gator gear bag that all my "accessories" go into. Then I schlep the instrument (in its case, slung over one shoulder or on my back) and the gear bag into the practice/performance venue. Or make your own from closed cell foam you can order from Amazon.
At times I've used a foldable hand-truck to tie the gear bag to while I put the instrument on my back with the backpack straps of the case (I'm fan of backpack straps for these things). But the problem with the hand-truck approach is that it only works on hard surfaces. So if you're doing a performance in the middle of a field or big yard, it usually turns into a pain. And of course they don't handle stairs well.

Well, that might depend on its precise goals and circumstances. However, there does appear to be enough of a market for them that the company making them -- as "the only compact and portable chair booster ..." is still in business: https://www.kaboost.com/products/natura ... SphTXP9zpo -- although I tend to agree that it's difficult to understand why.Mark wrote: Wed Feb 18, 2026 2:17 pm To be clear; this is not mine. I saw this photo online and thought it was way over engineered and totally not worth the effort.

I immediately assumed you were making a joke.
Am I the only one who was correct?
Regardless, it's pretty funny.
