Re: O-99 at Taylor Music
It doesn't appear to have yet been straightened out an re-lacquered.
(available in 2 - 3 months)
I wonder if there's an "as-is" price.

Re: O-99 at Taylor Music
So it seems they will econo overhaul / refurbish only after someone buys it and they secure funds for it first. The 2 to 3 months availability after buying it seems to suggest that.
Can someone tell me the difference between an econo overhaul vs. a full overhaul? I like to use the word refurbish. Anyway, I'm guessing the difference between econo vs. full refurbish is the valves being replated/rebuilt on a full refurbish.
Olds O-99 refurbished for $2,650 actually isn't that bad considering they are decent US-made tubas that haven't been made in decades. And soon there won't be any US- made tubas....even though the ones being made here over the last 25 years havent been particularly well made, or at least been inconsistent.
For 7/8 tubas, I much prefer the Conn 10j (and predecessor Pan American and Elkhart versions, even though only 3 top action valves) --- 18" bell, .695" valveset bore vs. the O-99's 16" bell, .656" valveset bore. The body/bugle on both are similar in size/girth, with the O-99 a little taller.

I’ve communicated directly with Taylor’s folks, and they’re very responsive to questions.
