Rich Matteson albums

Post by BopEuph »

I woke up this morning deciding to find as much of Rich online as I can. I found a bunch of albums.

This first one is of the Riverboat Five. I know there has to be a better fidelity out there (or maybe it's what I'm currently listening on), because I can barely hear Rich on the helicon. I started a conversation on this over on TubeNet about ten years ago, but never found the full album until now. Some clowns are trying to sell the vinyl on Amazon for $100-200.

Oh cool! I knew about Uniquely Rich, but couldn't find the album uploaded. Same with Tubajazz Live! I did, however, find these albums because of your post:

My favorite solo of his was from the alternate takes ("Great Alternatives") version of this l.p...the track: "Limehouse Blues".

All I know is that I never loan any album with Rich on it because I'll never get it back.

This is one of my favorite albums. Rich was trying to emulate more of a Ray Brown style on this album, and the songs he talks about playing with Louis are on this album, so it's cool to hear, say, the track Closer Walk with Thee, and think about how everyone was speechless after the take.

He also plays a bunch of false tones on St. James Infirmary on this album that are awesome.
