bargain (fabulous) headphones

Post by bloke »

I have some BROKEN HANGERS 7502 Sony (on ear) headphones.
I can hold them up to my ears (when doing nothing but listening), but - when playing along - I can't do that.

I had learned the the 7506 Sony (over ear) headphones hangers were compatible with the 7502 earpieces.

Someone had a 7506 "FOR PARTS" on eBay (seller reported: "no bass").

They cost $28 w/ postage.

When they arrived, I discovered that the hangers were SORT OF compatible, but the 7506 hanger SPAN (sadly) was too wide.

Then, I plugged in the 7506...NOTHING.

The 1/8" stereo plug LOOKED and FELT funny.

I examined the plug.

The insertion part was mashed into the back of the plug. I pulled it out with pliers. BOOM !!!!!!   :care:

I then listened to the youtube comparisons of the five orchestras playing the Mahler 2 brass chorale.

In the past, I was pretty sure that Concertgebouw kicked everyone's else asses.

With these headphones, there's just no doubt that they did. :coffee:
(If you disagree, that's OK: You're wrong. :teeth: )

I've messed (in-studio recording work..."WE NEED A TUBA FOR THIS...WHO SHOULD WE CALL ??") with all sorts of super-expensive headphones.

Admittedly, relying on my memory, these ($28 with shipping) Sony 7506 phones are the best I've ever used.

...and - typically - they're only about $115, bought new.

It was WORTH walking steeply downhill and back uphill (1400 feet x 2) - on melting, glassy, water-covered ice - to retrieve them from the mailbox down at the highway (with a heavy overcast sky at sundown and HEAVY fog...nearly dark) to retrieve them TONIGHT. :smilie7:

I have the same headphones. They are excellent and a bargain for the price.

Yeah. Some of the really expensive ones that I've used in studios when recording just sound (no other word for it...) "weird".

Same here. A cat chewed the cord off of my old pair and I liked them enough to go to the effort of adding a ⅛ inch TRS jack to it so that the cord is easily replaceable. That pair has since disappeared from my desk, and I assume one of the kids absconded with it :wall: .

From my old 7502 pair, I have the 1/4 inch stereo bphone jack adapter that screws over the 1/8 inch stereo jack.

If I ever want to practice bass and not disturb Mrs bloke, I guess I could do that, which would also include running YouTube into the other bass amplifier input jack, so I could hear both (in regards to learning more bass lines to oldies).

I would still like to find a new frame with good hangers for the 7502 earpieces. That one actually sounds excellent as well, if I had a way to hold those up to my ears.

I guess I should enter "Sony 7502 non-working" as a permanent eBay search.

I looked on various 3D print websites but can only find the 7506 hangers, not the 7502.

3D printed is less sturdy then injection molded of course, but material cost is so low you can easily get multiples.
