Rose City Instruments - Sierman Retailer

I just saw that one of my studio mates from Ithaca College, Andy Smith (not the Andy Smith in Chicago), is opening an instrument sales and repair shop in Washington state called Rose City Instruments. What is interesting is he is a Sierman retailer. I've seen Sierman mentioned a few times here. If I am not mistaken, he's the first retailer for Sierman in the US. Anyway check it out.

Given what tariffs are doing to prices of these things, and the lack of Pt6's available used, I don't think it's an unreasonable price.

They continually get new horns in. However you frequently see used models for sale, only a couple thousand less, due to this. Though I has had concerns about consistency from horn to horn of the same model, they are great instruments. I’m not sure I could ever justify suggesting or buying a Chinese copy of one that is the same price as one in good, used, condition. But then again, testing a new one for someone in Washington state couldn’t be any further…

Technically the store is launching this month, I believe. He told me has has the firs tuba (or tubas) arriving shortly.

Yeah my assumption was that they are not yet IN stock -- the web site is up but the stuff isn't there yet. And even the web site isn't complete, because the button that says search the products returns the same page for everything. It will get finished soon, I'm sure, and meanwhile gives everybody something to talk about.

Thanks so much for reaching out and the conversation about things. Yes, I have launched the business and product is on order. I am anticipating having a shipment of Sierman tubas and euphoniums in stock and on display at the US Army Band Tuba Euphonium Workshop. The way I have the system set up right now, if something is out of stock, it still shows on the store, as I'm trying to show what I am offering beyond what is in stock at time. Regarding pricing - Sierman isn't like your typical manufacturer in China. They have brought in consultants, including Roland Szentpali, Dan Perrantoni, and others to help them make better quality instruments. Additionally, they make a lot of parts and instruments for many manufacturers that we consider to be higher grade product, versus some other places as well. Finally, if you haven't seen what tariffs and the cost of silver and gold are doing to things, please go read about that as well.

Yes, there will be a shipment of Long Island Brass Company mouthpieces in the showroom by March. I have a list of what is coming and will be adding those to the site as well. My goal is that those will be in stock and available for our display at the NWRTEC in Boise. I do believe I am the first dealer on the West Coast to offer these mouthpieces.

Thanks for the patience on everything, I am a one-man show doing this, setting up a repair bench, playing 2 nights a week and conducting 2 nights a week. It's truly a joy and honor to be able to do this, I've had this dream of having a business like this since for over 20 years, and I'm here to help you in anyway I can.

1) I don't understand their logo, "WangLing & Since 2011". I can only assume it was started by two people, one named WangLing, and the other named... "Since 2011."



2) I have a lot of questions about this F tuba.



3) Google was confused as well. In part, because of my poor spelling.


4) Which all leads me to believe that this place must be hot, they don't need a large ad, or even correct spelling!

I just checked again, and it looks like the Sierman 'Sonata' (Nirschl 4/4 CC copy) is the one listed for $12k, and the Sierman 'Galaxy' (B&S PT6p copy) is listed for $10.7k

The tubas look nice; we will see how they pan out over time

It wasn't written by Wagner, Bruckner, or Blazhevich, but Hoagie Carmichael wrote a ballad called Skylark a dozen years before there was a Skylark car, and it's a damn good song.
Nelson Riddle always really embellished the lead sheet chord changes, but always in an amazingly good way.



Andy: in spite of all the apparent obstacles, worked really hard to run the Conn-Selmer parts department as well as Sonya had.

new tubas: I don't need any.

bags: I'm not as physically strong as I was 30 or 40 years ago - and cases weigh a lot, but I'm tired of "how did that happen?" dents.

AI pictures of tubas: None that I've seen anywhere are ready for prime time.
