I shortened the 1st and 4th slides this evening. I am surprised what a difference it made. The MTS should be out about an inch on this horn generally. However when valve combinations are added, they are significantly flat. At least they were! I agree with Joe that this was meant to be a Eb tuba. Now that I shortened 1 and 4, all combinations, except 2nd alone, follow normal intonation tendencies. Now I have to figure out how to get to the little second slide without disassembling half of the valve section to get to it.

As I pontificate redesigning the 5th valve configuration, I realize how tight the space is after the 4th valve to the “plumbers loop.” Hmm..
