Insight on a Wick 3L?
For the past 50 years, I have played a Bach 18. I have tried many others but somehow, for various reasons, end up back with the 18. I tried a friend's Wick 3L, which is supposedly has an even smaller rim than the 18, but has a much deeper cup which is more of a funnel than a bowl. I thought it would be TOO small, but liked it enough to buy it from him. The cup looks like an old 7B Helleburg, but the rim is more of a Bach style rim. I can't find any illustrations or any specs besides rim diameter and throat size. Anyone know more than that?

Re: Insight on a Wick 3L?
I currently play on a Wick 3L Heritage.
Good mouthpiece. I'm quite happy.

Re: Insight on a Wick 3L?
I used one through HS. It has a pretty open throat. Internal diameter is about like the 24AW, but with a better rim (like the countout of the 18, though different internal/opening size). It is a solid choice. I had a 7B, and I remember the Wick playing more open / darker / overall better for me (I've never really cared for the 7B). Only reason I moved on, was that different stuff worked with my first CC tuba and I never really went back to it.

3L classic works great on compensating horns both BBb and Eb, similar in size and depth to 24AW but better rim. I don't like it at all for F or CC though.

The Wick 3 and 3L are essentially Wick's version of a 24AW, with a slightly thinner rim on the same blank as a Wick 1 & 2.
