Trip to PA

Post by arpthark »

I’m making a big pickup run to PA to grab several horns that I’ve managed to be on the hook for over the past several weeks:

Foremost, getting the parts together from a forum member to put together a single five valve Cerveny Eb from two whole horns and do a linkage swap for them, getting paid in spare parts.

Also grabbing, in various cities, a five valve Miraphone 1291 BBb copy, an Olds O-99 in very nice shape, several baritones, an Olds Recording trumpet, and a King 3B trombone with F attachment, all to repair and resale.

I’ve created an epic backlog for myself by doing this, but I managed to just clear out the garage, so might as well fill it back up. Still working on organizing after the move.

You're an old soul, my friend. :)

If you're anywhere near Clearfield, make a stop at Denny's Beer Barrel Pub. Maybe not for the 3- or 6-pound burger challenge, but the normal burgers are good, too.

Enjoy the trip!

Take your time with that Recording... If you take long enough I might actually have the money for it.

Most of the Olds small-shank trombones are really similar (with their bells being the main differences).

I have a (not complete bell section, but) Recording (Olds trombone model) bell ONLY floating around here somewhere...

ie...were someone interested in sticking it on their Ambassador trombone, etc...

That's actually what my trombone setup looks like right now. I have 3 bells and 1 slide.

I have a pre-WWII Special Bell, a late1940s Olds A-20 Ambassador "bass" bell (not a bad at all but that's what Olds called then.. they are a small bore 8.5" been with an F attachment, and and early 50s LA A15 ambassador bell.

Depending on how much you want for the Recording Bell I might be interested.

I'm not particularly proud of it.

To be clear, it’s an Olds Recording trumpet that I picked up.

I also stopped at Dillon Music on the trip back, so I made the most of the journey.

Play anything fun? I'm intrigued by the Willson 3+1 compensating Eb... not that I have the money for it.

That Willson compensating Eb was the best horn there today. I played the 836, 834 (new 5/4 CC) Hirsbrunner HB50 Yorkbrunner, the 188 (close second), the Hagen 495 BBb, the Eastman F and John Packer YFB 621 clone. I’ll make a separate post here later tonight.
