Monsoon Brass, Tucson

Post by Mary Ann »

Just got back from a VERY fine quintet performance by the Monsoon Brass. In a very packed church, for donations.
VERY good. I got to hear some of the highest level players here in town play music that was way too hard for me to even attempt to read. Way up there. It was fantastic. I got there on the late side and grabbed a seat not knowing where I would be wrt the group, and I ended up downwind of the tuba bell with a fabulous side view of the player. So I got a tuba lesson in spades! He was playing an older unlacquered 186 that he got from a local someone who had to sell a stellar example of same due to back problems that put him out of the business of lifting tubas. Fantastic sound he got. I could tell it was a CC being played, but a very very very very fine CC.

Yup, slightly different some personnel -- different horn player, the first two trumpets on the left. Tbone, tuba.
