WTB Eb tuba
Hello,
I am looking for a cheap Eb tuba. Interested in 4v compensating or 5v non-compensating instruments.
Thanks

What general area do you live in?
Some old Yorks, Martins, and perhaps a King rotary valved CC

And how cheap is cheap?
4 valve comp and 5 valve ebs may be cheaper than their f, cc and bbb counterparts, but you still pay a relatively large premium over the 3 valvers.

"Cheap" used in the same sentence as 4-valve or compensating tuba is not going to happen. How cheap? PM me as I have a three-valve I haven't listed yet.

If you are semi close to me, I have this 15” bell York that is now a 4+1. I’m not motivated (ie lazy) to list it but I don’t really play it much anymore. Smaller sound but plays great.

You said my two very important words.. 981 and Uncle Matt.Ant wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 10:12 pm I have a Besson 981 that I'm looking to sell. Plays well, bought from Dillon Music 15 years ago, switched back to BBb. Matt Walters has serviced it over the years.

I figure i can safely ignore this thread now, as so many folk with excellent options have chimed in offering to solve it?
Some day maybe i'll be good enough to merit a 4th valve...
Ps. I do shamefully indulge in a fine 3 comp eb, given the chance. Sadly they are not as common as their BBb counterparts... Who knew 1+2=3?

Re: WTB Eb tuba
I join you in that someday I may be good enough to use a 5th valve. Even on the NStar, I find the false tone more usable and can get down to the pedal that way. If I had to buy one again, and resale were not a factor, I'd get a four valve. Lighter weight and easier for me to hoist, same functionality.
