Happy Tuba Tuesday. The Museum today features a Besson, Model 225 recording bell, BB flat tuba, 4 piston, c.1959.

Serial #: 295248, bell is 23 7/8″, bore is .730″& height is 45 3/4″.

Decorative engraving on bell. “50 MEDALS OF HONOR / BESSON / LONDON / PARIS / NEW YORK / MADE IN ENGLAND” on bell. Front-facing detachable bell.

Never realized this type of tuba had a model number.

I would just call it a recording bell New Standard BBb.

And i really appreciate these recording bells. Now i have an excuse for not watching the conductor.

I tried to put an upright bell on one of these, and the upper bow got in the way, so unless someone is cleverer than i (which pretty much goes for everyone all the time without saying... seeing as how i got stuck on tuba) recording bell it is!
