Kalison/Nirschl(?) top cap felts

Post by arpthark »

These are about 1" OD and .5" ID. Ferree's doesn't seem to stock felts in this size and I am still working on getting my Allied account up and running.

Does anyone have a source for these, or could anyone send me a set of four and I can pay you for them? Not picky on the color.

Those old blue felts are thinner than anything Allied has and wider.

I think you'd be best off buying some sheet felt of the appropriate thickness and a couple of steel circular cutters... the type that chop holes in things like felt and leather. Chinese versions are cheaper, and they might be good enough to do a bunch of these before crapping out on you.

If the sheet felt feels too soft, you can always soak it in water and let it shrink some before you start chopping on it.

Back in the late 90s, I had a Kalison Daryl Smith. The valves were fantastic. On my horn I had beige rubber bumpers instead of felt. I wonder if those are still available. I'm glad TE was able to get you what you needed.

Yes, I have a DS that I am fixing up to sell. It's a really sweet horn, but it had sat for quite some time and had a ton of crud inside.

Once it's fully flushed out and put back together, it's going to be an awesome tuba.

I actually bought out the rest of TE's stock of Kalison felts, since I have a couple of B&M valvesets that could use them. I am glad they were willing to sell them to me.
