Possible trade?

Post by Eutubabone54 »

I'm playing on a Miraphone 190 Bb. Sound is great for the community orchestras and german groups I perform in, however I'm my 70's and I need a smaller & lighter tuba- trade for maybe a 188 c, 186 c or Bb, Rudy 4/4C or Bb, Cerveny Piggy C or Bb, even a 601(lighter than the 190).

Definitely not offering to trade, but I would bet that the Hagen 494 is considerably lighter. Four valves -- and you will get the Miraphone sound.

I owned this tuba briefly as a part of a crazy four-way trade between me, Brent, one of my bandmates and Mark Finley. It produces a massive sound and if I'm remembering correctly, intonation was really not too bad for such a large horn with alternate fingerings needed for the fifth partial.

Some history on this tuba -- it was previously owned by my bandmate's uncle who played it in the Shreveport Symphony back in the 1980s. He bought it new then. After he passed away it fell into my bandmate's possession circa 2013. It had a linkage conversion done by Dick Hansen in Brimfield, MA around that time when some of those gray plastic Miraphone parts started to crack. My bandmate then had it serviced regularly and played it in various local ensembles in CT until we did the trade in 2024.

Hope you find a good trade for it, Brent! It is a really nice horn, but as you say, so big!

Thanks!
I am working on completing the 2nd valve kicker like I made on the traded Piggy with arpthark. Got to vent the 2nd valve then add the return spring.

That's a beauty! I bet this could BURY an ensemble. I mean, if you wanted to, of course. :tuba:

Ok. Traded! Traded my 190 Mira kaiser Bb for a Matt Walters 1284 6/4 Bb ( demo custom made by Matt Walters) from Dr. Doug Black. We're both happy and satisfied. I got a tuba that's shorter and lighter and plays well and he got a tuba that has my 2nd valve kicker design and can possibly obliterate an orchestra( if he so desires). Great guy-great teacher! He's at University of Alabama/Huntsville. Brent
