Is the picture supposed to be a Shires trumpet?

Something must have happened as it used to go to a dropbox folder with several pictures and a description along with contact information. I've emailed him to have a look at it.

He had pics and description of the tuba when he first posted it. Dunno why it shows a Shires trumpet and why he hasn't fixed it yet....

Thank you kindly, Russ, for posting the photos.

To answer CatgrowlB -- I posted the five photos to DropBox along with a written description of the horn, and then put the DropBox link onto TubaForum. Unfortunately, the link allowed people to edit my post. Someone deleted the photos and description, and substituted a photo of a trumpet. I have had other problems with DropBox over the years and am preparing to abandon it. Russ Dickman has kindly offered to host my sale offer. After he sends me the new link, I will post it here.

Also for CatgrowlB -- My son enters pre-op today with open heart surgery scheduled for Tuesday. Correcting this posting has not been a priority.

Thank you for your patience, everyone, while we get this sorted out.

Hello All,

James' open heart surgery lasted 6-and-a half hours on Tues the 21st. The surgery was successful. The surgeons repaired the mitral valve, also performed a different major repair of a problem that they discovered while they were in there, plus he needed three bypasses. Kudos to the surgeons and staff at Mt Sinai hospital Cardiac Center, Manhattan. James has recovered rapidly and is home as of yesterday afternoon (October 25th). Now the big concern is that he give his clavicle (breastbone) time to properly heal.

As the flurry of activity around son James subsides, I am have begun replying to the many emails and inquiries y'all have sent about the Hirsbrunner. Thank you for your continued patience as I catch up. Reminder the email address is proscientific@verizon.net

Thank you.
Paul.

There have been several inquiries about the mouthpiece receiver on this HBS193. The bottom line -- the receiver accepts both American and Euro mouthpieces.

I regularly use a G&W Taku Euro with this horn. This is a "Euro" size mpc whose small end diameter is approx 0.540". The mpc enters the receiver to a depth of approx 0.955".

I tested a Conn Helleberg 7B. This is an "American" size whose small end diameter is approx 0.520". The mpc enters the receiver to a depth of approx 1.475".

For reference, the mouth of the receiver is 0.593".

Thanks for your interest in this instrument. Here are answers to some recent inquiries:

Length from bottom of bottom bow to top of top bow is 31".

Width of the horn at altitude of the lead pipe is 19".

There are no inscriptions on the mouthpiece receiver.

The bell emblem is as follows:
(engraving of a stag -- the Swiss German word for "stag" is "Hirsch")

(Apologies for confusing wording of this post earlier today. Hopefully better now.)

Status report:

The HBS193 sale is taking longer than anticipated because of time pressure, and because the character of the sale has changed. The time pressure is due to four serious and unexpected matters that have arisen since I first placed the ad on TubaForum on October 4th -- matters that demand my personal attention. The character of the sale changed as I realized that many tubists (many more than I expected) are familiar with the reputation, rarity, and quality of this model and would like to play-test it, even if they do not wish to buy it or cannot afford to buy it. So I am making it available, at my home, to those who wish to play-test it. It seems only right to let people experience it, before it disappears into someone's private stable.

Several tubists have already play-tested the instrument, and others are working with me to schedule visits. Although some players have offered to buy, I have not explicitly promised the horn to anyone. I will make no final deal until the play-testing phase is complete. I am in no hurry to sell.

Considering my own hectic schedule, I will probably remain in "play-test mode" until after New Years. Meanwhile, people have been contacting me via email with thoughtful questions about the horn. Will answer all the new questions in one email as soon as possible.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Paul.
