yep...in carbon fiber (conductive) helmets...but - well - people go to football games and NASCAR races with the hopes of seeing someone get hurt, yes?

A 9 foot long graphite fly rod in a storm is fun too! (Not my problem though, I only fish bamboo rods! :smilie8: )

At high enough voltages, many typically non-conductive things will conduct. By the time the lightning hits your tuba case it's already convinced the air to do so.

Besides, who uses carbon fiber that isn't covered in plastic resin for consumer grade situations?

But still, this dumb troll topic isn't the dumbest one I've ever come up with.

It just seems to me that if I come up with a dumber one, I could have trolled more than three people. 😣

My Carbon-fiber case? Which instrument do i have with such a case?

(that said, i was disappointed in the links merely to google searches. Someone is phoning it in on providing clickbait.

It is thought provoking though. How could charred carbon-fiber be blacker than ordinary? Or does it just melt into a puddle of disappointment?

I shouldn't be giving away free information, but the best trolls - just like the best humor - are those which are at least partially based in truth. The very best ones - though - are the ones that are just about completely based in truth.

(That's why sensible people - who are upbeat, and have a genuine sense of humor - aren't watching alphabet networks television, and certainly not after 11:30 p.m.)

Granted, this is not a sailboat mast, but you get the idea.

Thanks for the rod. Wow, that's pretty impressive, and completely not what i expected. But i bet i still can rationalize it...

PS. Having to look for myself is an acceptable answer.

In general, people do not take the threat of lightning seriously enough. The odds are relatively small, but you do not want to be among those directly affected.
