Montgeomery Ward's Tuba - RARE!

Post by the elephant »

I have a tuba marked

Made for
MONTGOMERY WARD'S
by
JW York & Son
Grand Rapids
Mich
USA

There are small numbers stamped on each of the push-button-thingies:

a 1, and a 2, and a 3.

My grandpa used to play it every Sunday afternoon in the Chicago Symphony back in the late 1950s for this little German guy. His name was Jakesub Rackley, but his friends all called him "Sub".

I want to sell it because it smells pretty weird, and my cats keep trying to pee on it.

I wanna hunndert dahller fer it.

NO LOWBALLERS OR TIRE KICKERS. I KNOW WHAT I GOT.

My mom needs a second planter in her garden. Do you think this horn is appropriate for horticultural endeavors?

I could use another Montgomery Wards tuba in case my main one has to go in the shop:

Ward's only sold THE BEST instruments. They make pretty spiffy yard art.

As far as "appropriate for school", I demand that my 5th grade students' parents purchase $1700 beginner-grade Chinese trumpets and trombones (as well as $1300 Malaysian beginner clarinets), and scoff at and demean any children (as well as texting their parents with over-the-top screed) who show up with $140 Chinese trumpets, trombones, and clarinets.

My bands consistently receive superior ratings at concert festival, and at least a II in sight-reading !!!!! :slap:

Did Sub use this on the Lawrence Welk Show?

No, but I have played many gigs with both Guy Hovis and Myron Floren. Does that count?
