Alexander Mouthpiece

Post by Sam Gnagey »

Here's a very rare mouthpiece made by Alexander; probably for the Vienese 3+3 F tuba. It has an extremely large shank. From the color of the metal it looks to me like "German Silver" which is a specific alloy sometimes used as the bright metal fittings on string instrument bow frogs. The rim is in perfect condition except for some discoloration in the metal. The cup diameter is 30.5mm. The cup shape is a lot like the old Miraphone C4, however the Alex cup is shallower. Let me stress that the shank is much larger than the Euro shank. Asking $250 plus shipping.

Sam, when I bought your Vienna Alex several years ago, it did include a mouthpiece very similar to that one. Likely this one’s twin. It was very small and shallow and made of nickel silver. Definitely made a gorgeous tenor-tuba-like sound in the higher register.

I had one as well, same thing, basically was never used. Perfect shape, indeed. :tuba:
