edit: I am keeping the Piggy for now, sorry.

Hi all,

This is a 1980s Cerveny Piggy CC. I’ve owned this horn for about a year and a half, but I do not get the opportunity to use it very often and would like to pass it along.

It’s in fairly good shape with some worn lacquer and minor dings and signs of use. First valve has been vented, and it also has a homemade 2nd valve slide kicker which solves pretty much all the intonation issues with this tuba. I do like to use 1-3, 2-3 and 1-2 for D, Eb and E in the staff. Intonation is otherwise quite good. Kick out 2nd for Eb and for Db. 1-2-4 works great for low F. Linkage has been converted to small plastic Dubro which is not silent but not distractingly loud, either.

I replaced the mouth pipe with a brand new nickel-silver one from Cerveny. The fitment was not exact, so I did have to put in a small brace on the bell between the mouthpipe and bell throat (similar to those seen on modern Miraphone). There is a solder scar from the removal of the original mouthpipe.

This model is a 3/4 sized CC with a Kaiser bore of ~.835”. It packs quite a punch and is a very nice compact do-everything horn.

My asking price is $2,500 and includes a hard case. Pickup in CT is preferred; I can ship, but if shipping, I cannot send the hard case.

PM me or email beanhillbrass at iCloud if interested.

Thanks!

Yes. I can't complain -- It works, and it's completely removable if the next person wants to take it off!

Now I’m inspired to try that on my five rotor Symphonie.

I can tell how I did the work and design for just $850....or, you can look at the picture and figure it out. I will not tell you that I got the parts from Ace Hardware for- Wait a minute! Please delete that previous sentence from your visual memory.

Interesting to see the little variations in these over time.
Yep. This is the second Piggy I've owned. The old one was a 1970s model and had a much more ornate engraving and a longer body (top bow much closer to the bell). It was a "wide octave" Pig where there was a discrepancy between the open Cs. This one does not have that issue. Note also the guards on the 4th valve tubing which prevents crushing.

Other things I neglected to mention -- the new receiver takes Euro shank, but American fits (deeply/snugly). The metal is quite thin. Despite the bore size, I've found it doesn't take a lot of air -- it is just nearly impossible to overblow.

Plus, who can resist that thumb ring?
