Practice mutes revisited

Post by martyneilan »

Yes they are evil. However, when the only alternative is buzzing in the car, they are better than no practice. I see Yamaha has a new version of their Silent Brass that costs more than my current tuba. What else is currently out there, that may be more affordable? I have built several mutes over the years (with very mixed results) and may try my hand at something.

I have a Schlipf and recommend it if you really need a practice mute.

While the Yamaha Silent Brass is expensive it is something I could not live without. It is brilliant.

My choice is a Schlipf Mnozil Tour mute. It works good as a practice mute but is also an adjustable straight mute if you ever need one in concert and can be carried in the bell

Just lurking here. I will through another vote for Schlipf Mnozil Tour mute. It works well for my purposes.
