Everything people seem to be attracted to buying looks like an unabridged dictionary or a Catholic Bible, when folded up.

the topic is about folding stands. I like my folding stand to actually be able to... fold

Got mine in just now. I really like it. Very light but very solid. Goes high enough that I could play standing up if I had to but also collapses into a tiny bundle.

The plate for the music does NOT fold.

There are music clips that slide left and right that allow you to hold down a single sheet of paper, but also a double if needed

The feet are adjustable and they expend to a very wide width. If you need it

The only thing as a slight negative is the feet dont have rubber caps on them, that would be a nice thing to have

Interesting. I prefer the narrower bag of the fold-in-half Vekkia deck, but I'm intrigued by the extensions. . . might try to fabricate my own extender clip.

A lot of that looks plastic. I wonder how it will do in the long term. I guess maybe it is cheap enough it doesn't matter.

The little clips look a bit finicky too between sliding and opening. Does it take two hands, one to open the clip and the other to slide the music? Does the clip open like half an inch? Does it slide cleanly or is it jerky and binds a lot because it is plastic on plastic?

One thing I like about the K+M metal bars is they slide completely up out of the way and then slide back down and it only takes one hand so I can keep holding my horn. If I don't want to use them, they are completely not in the way

They slide "OK" with one hand. As light as the stand is, it might help to step on one of the feet

As far as how far they open, I think this is enough to suffice

I was fascinated to see - when I was playing a series of toot-'n'-scoot brass quintet gigs again today - that the other four people all had music stands which only folded up to about the size of (again) an unabridged dictionary or a Catholic Bible, whereas mine slipped into the 10x14 manila envelope with my music charts. A couple of them even required zippered luggage to carry them in.

It looks like the not-particularly-portable music stand thing has crossed the brain/blood barrier from the amateur world to the professional world. (I obviously haven't been paying attention to trends.)

One person said, "I got tired of those 'wire' things always tearing up"... to which I asked, "so you managed to tear up several K&M music stands?"... to which they replied, "No, I never bought one of those German ones."

I bought mine about 45 years ago. I first became aware of them when a long time buddy of mine and I first met, and they showed up at a gig with one. Theirs was black, which occurred to me was a good idea, so I bought a black one.

The MSO BQ trombonist in 1993 worked part-time at the same music store where I apprenticed in brass. He bought his K&M on his employee discount. One use at a gig and the other four of us took him up on his offer to buy us all one at that price. We all still have them in 2025. Fantastic stands.

Mildly related. ..

Other than a hose clamp... or replacing the entire shaft.... Does anyone know how to fix a slowly sinking Manhasset stand?
As amateur as they come...I know just enough to be dangerous.
