For sale is this Miraphone 181 6-Valve 5/4 F Tuba, in Lacquer. It has just been taken to the shop, chem cleaned and dent work done by John Stanley in Houston (He does great work!). Most every cosmetic issue has been addressed except for part of a dent on the top bow. Without taking the whole horn apart, he was not able to reach some of the dent. Pictures are included of that area with as much detail as possible.
It plays very well with plenty of alternate fingerings available with 6 valves to avoid slide pulling (Though slides are aligned and move freely). The sound is similar to my GDR B&S with more meat on the bone and easier playability. The weird notes famously challenging on German rotor F tubas are noticeably easier on this one. This was purchased from Don Harry by its previous owner who used it on tour and recorded an album with Synergy brass quintet. If I didn’t already own my GDR B&S I would be all over this!
There is no thumb ring but there is a very nice Walt Johnson flight case that needs new wheels.
The horn is located in Houston TX. Not willing to ship but would be happy to host you at the house for some duets and/or a fermented beverage on me!
