A recently completed project that was a long time in the making. The original configuration of this BBb tuba made in 1914 by J.W. York of Grand Rapids Michigan was with only three top-action valves. The instrument was reconfigured to four front-action piston valves, with a thumb operated rotary fifth valve. In addition to restoring the original body of the horn, roughly 90% of the braces seen were reproduced from scratch as was the No. 6 branch, all tuning slides and 5th valve branches, mouth-pipe and receiver, thumb-ring, 5th valve lever and linkage. The valve block assembly and rotor valve assembly were supplied by sources in Germany. It was refinished in a frosted silver plate, the same finish it sported when new. Designed, parts fabrication and restored by Daniel Oberloh.

An Oberloh-restored 6/4 5-valve York in satin silver with MAW valves and a Cronkhite bag?
Honestly, the price seems about right for that package.
It’s on the other side of the state from me (and Connecticut is small, so it’s really just about an hour and 45 minutes away) but I’m still tempted to check it out.

I'm sure it was pristine and perfect when Dan finished it, but sure looks like someone wiped it down with paper towels (which can be surprisingly sandpaper-y on a finish like this).
