Kanstul 33S - $4700 - Lincoln, NE - SOLD

I'm selling my Kanstul 33S BBb tuba with a rose brass bell in nearly mint condition. I'm the second owner. It plays with a beautiful, rich sound and is quite nimble. Bore size is 0.656. The valves are extremely smooth and fast. All the slides move easily and are accessible from the top.

For me, I have to play this with the main tuning slide rather far out, and the first slide requires anywhere from 1-3 inches of pull. I've used this as a four-valve tuba because the 5th valve length is odd. It's longer than a flat whole step, but not long enough for a 2-3 combo. I didn't want to booger anything up by cutting it.

This is a beautiful tuba in excellent condition. There are only a few small dings on the back side of the bottom bow. It comes with an SKB hard case with wheels in solid condition also (see update below). I'm asking $4700, but will consider offers. Located in Lincoln, NE. I am not interested in shipping this horn, as it is very large and very nice. I will drive up to four hours to meet a buyer. That puts me in range of places like Denver, Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, etc. You can PM me here or jordanhluke (at) yahoo (dot) com

UPDATE:
This tuba was on loan to a friend, so I got it back and was able to take more photos. All four valves are vented and plating is near perfect. The valve section is removable, but I have never taken it off myself.

The dents on the back are a bit bigger than I remembered, but not huge, and not visible from the front at all. There are also a few spots of acid bleed under the lacquer around the bottom bow cap. I couldn't get a clear picture, but there are a few spots with "hazy" lacquer on the backside. It looks like it might not have been buffed completely before lacquering.

My friend also let me know that she had a boo-boo with the case and the housing of the first latch got broken. The latch and pin are still there and will still latch to the bottom half. I am working on getting a replacement from SKB for that part. Their website only lists replacement latches and pins, not the housing itself.

This is basically the same horn as my 900-4B with a fifth valve added. These horns are really fun; but it's disappointing to hear about that 5th valve. I wonder if something is mucked up a bit with it? My horn plays so well.

Still, this is a GREAT price, and hope it sells quickly!

I think the 900-4b is a 5/4 based on the bugle taper of a Martin Mammoth. .689 bore

The 33s is a compact 4/4 based on the bugle taper of a York model 33 (only ever offered in top action). .656-.689 bore

Now that I didn't know. I thought it was the same horn with a 5th valve.
