I know a long time ago I asked this question and I can’t find where I asked it so I’m going to ask it again. With it being difficult to find versions of the old PT 88, what mouthpieces out there today would you consider pretty close. The 88 has been my main stay since 1990, but this old dog is always willing to try some new stuff.

What make and model of tuba are you playing these days?

I'm not sure that I would take to a (PT88) 33.5 mm cup opening, but I like the narrow rim feature and the conservative throat opening feature of that mouthpiece - assuming a particular contrabass tuba calls for a very deep cup (possibly the temper the over-exuberant sonority tendencies of a particular contrabass tuba's low range).

Robert Tucci still makes the PT mouthpieces, but calls them RTxx. The RT88 is still widely available, and, as mouthpieces go these days, not terribly expensive.

For what it’s worth, here’s your original post.

I had found that it is similar to a Geib. It seems like it is more rounded on the bottom and potentially a more open throat.

It might be worth trying a Sellmansberger Symphony or Orchestral Grand
