I have decided to sell my 6-valve (4 +2) F-tuba. It lives in Odense, Denmark. It is an Alexander from 1955 which I had completely refurbished and lacquered at the Alexander factory in 2007. I struggle with some metal sensitivities, hence the (probably controversial) lacquering. Shortly after the refurbishment, the bell got crumpled in transport. It’s been repaired, but still bares a small scar. It has not had an impact on the playability. I will set the price to 4800€, significantly less than I have put into it. I prefer in-person sale and am willing to talk about the price if there is serious interest.

(Please let me know if the links don’t work)

The tuba is of the type which Michael Lind used and recorded on through most of his career with the addition of a 6th valve.

The sound is vibrant and focused. The valves are lightning fast. It’s a particularly great horn for solo and medium ensemble work, though it is also fantastic for Berlioz and Bydlo. An old Alex requires some time and attention as far is intonation goes, but the payoff is great.

Valves 1-4 are tuned like a modern instrument. Valve 5 is pretty much identical to valve 4 in length, and the sixth is a flat M2. While untraditional, it allows for use of fewer valves in to get the low notes and more variations for tone and intonation.

It comes with a custom made gigbag from Supersac and standard molded F-tuba hardcase.

(I have struggles with getting this post to work. I was an active member of tubenet 20 years ago but have made a new account. I can’t answer private messages because I am too new. Email me at tooema@gmail.com)
