Happy Tuba Tuesday. Today, the Museum features a Holton, American-style medium recording, BB flat tuba, 4 piston, 1926.

Serial #: 91427

Bell Diameter 21 3/4”, Bore Size .665, Height 43”.

Comments:

“MADE BY / FRANK HOLON & CO.” on bell. Some floral engraving around identification marks. This instrument has a front facing detachable bell.

Really cool. And really odd that Holton chose such a small bore size for these horns. I guess that trend lasted for another 70 years or so.

^ Bisontuba made a slight typo on bore. It is .665", not .655" ........same bore as the 'Monster' Eb tubas.

...smaller than the standard King .687" bore, but larger than the Conn 15j / Olds .656" bore....

And a tiny bit larger than the York model 33 (4/4) BBb tubas.

I read it as .665”, so I didn’t even catch that typo!
