Tuba Tuesday: Unusual York Sousaphone

Happy Tuba Tuesday!

In today’s edition, from the Museum, we look at a most interesting York BBb Sousaphone. This instrument has lower valve cap spring loaded water buttons.
The horn, from c. 1932, has a .750 bore, and even includes an old photo showing the original owner using it in an ensemble.

I wish my horns had those fancy bottom caps. My shirts really do!

The photo showing the original owner is cool but he's not playing that York. Not that it really matters but it's always cool to see old horns in their "natural habitat".

Tuesdays are becoming my favorite day of the week.

I don't suppose an exploded diagram of how they work is possible. Do they press against a plate that seals the bottom of the valve?

Even if they are just shock absorbers for my stomach, they are probably a win.

Sorry I'm late to the party. I had a virtually identical York sousaphone from 1939 (I believe, maybe '36). Mine also had the same bottom valve caps. I 'think' that they were pretty standard on that era of York .750" bore Monster sousas.
