There are a lot of orchestral players that are probably just as good as the "big 5" guys but aren't as well known. Steve Campbell (Minnesota), Craig Knox (Pittsburgh), Randy Montgomery (Milwaukee) are three that come to mind.

I have read that the backbore size on a mouthpiece can alter the intonation on trumpets . Does this apply to tuba mouthpieces as well? I have used a Elliott 2 backbore and a 5 backbore and couldn't notice any difference they were having on intonation.

Those sound better but still would sound better with a tuba I would say.

I can't be the only one who thinks this would sound so much better with a tuba playing and not a bass trombone barking on the bottom.
