Re: Best choices to support 55-60 member band

I'm always the contrarian opinion, but I've heard huge sounds from the old style king tubas, sound that is present and cut through. The bigger tubas won't be as distinct. Maybe this is what you are after. Encourage you to experiment with larger mp's.

Re: Mouthpiece for 1918 York Model 33

I may not have a vintage York 33...

... But I've read that the only York models with the larger-than-Euro (itself larger than standard/American) receivers are the big 6/4 instruments. The 33 is *not* one of those.

It sounds like you need a small or "British" (about the size of a large shank ...

Re: dimensions of big detachable bell tubas

Making sense of the measurements, is standard bell dimension the diameter? And bell width how tall the bell is face down?

I'll keep an eye out for things that could serve.

I think i have come across cases for Kings and Reynolds off hand, but they are a notch smaller.

Yes on both questions ...

dimensions of big detachable bell tubas

As I was desperately scouring the internet marketplaces searching for a chest/case for my big detachable bell tubas so I could take one to tuba Xmas, as well as looking for bags to carry bells in, I thought it might be nice to have the measurements of the bodies/recording bells available to anyone ...

An idea for transporting detachable bells

Ok, no real protection, but it's lightweight and solves the problem of never being able to transport your detachable bells around with the body's hardcase, albeit very cheaply....this is provided you dont bang the bag into everything you see. Maybe wrap in blankets first, then insert in bag.

I ...

Re: Convenient Mouthpiece Find

I love barn find threads. Yeah that's the bigger holton, curious as to the bell size. Should be a .750 bore. I had one at one point and really liked it, but too many horns blah blah blah...I'm in my don't polish phase. Heavily tarnished silver seems to get more respect from people curious to know ...

I said some of their tubas, fully aware which tubas you mentioned. I think my point is that some people, including those who have commented have pushed the idea that a holton tuba is the same as a york tuba, muddying the waters, and really I am trying to filter the waters pointing out how unlikely a ...

So if i post pictures of a holton and york from roughly 2 years apart in the 1915's or thereabouts with lots of measuring tape next to the pictures to show you they were made different sizes and are different measurements, could we come to an agreement that Holton made ***some*** their own tubas ...

Re: York made the Holton (32" x 19") BB-flats' and E-flats' bells and bows...

I could go along with maybe in the early 1900's holton contracted with york to make bows for their tubas when they were getting their plant up and running, but this arrangement most likely was short lived, if it even existed. Holton had a huge plant when they moved to Wisconsin where they could ...

Everyone is entitled to their right and wrong opinions. I'll wait for some pictures and more proof, as well as the other York enthusiasts, whose opinion i respect, to weigh in. They fact that none of them have commented yet might say something?Honestly i didn't want to comment to incite a mob of ...

If you have a Holton tuba that has a stamped 51 on it, then that might be proof that early on Holton, while they were getting started in Chicago had York stencil their tubas. Until I see a picture though, it's not proof. I also would want to see a York tuba with a 51 stamp to prove that York stamped ...
