Re: National Symphony Orchestra of the Kennedy Center Principal Tubist

My sister lived in DC 1995-2010 (or thereabouts) and really liked it. She left when work changed, but still visits friends there. I visited her at least a half-dozen times, and at least once took the train down from Baltimore to DC and back. I recall being impressed by the BMI/DC train as I had ...

Re: WTB: 6/4 or 5/4 BBb tuba

Dan Schulz has an old Blessing (similar to a York Master and made by Bohm & Meinl) that's a copy of a York 716, I think. It has both an upright and a recording bell.

I don't know if that's big enough for you, but it might work. The pic below shows a restored York 716 (left) next to an unrestored ...

Re: Three Decades of the Freak Jury

I think I found it back in 1997 or 1998. I remember I bought an old Buescher Eb in 1999, I think, from someone on the board who said that Harvey Hartman had worked on it and thought it good. The horn was not really that good, but it was the first horn I'd owned in about 15 years at that point, and I ...

I remember Chuck from the old board. He was someone whose opinions I appreciated. I found this in case some want to know about the non-tuba side of his life.

Re: Quality BBb Tubas

I bought a 641 many years ago, and it got me through college. It was never my favorite horn, and it seemed (at least to me) to be sensitive to what mouthpiece you used, but I received compliments on the sound of it. The 186 is a favorite of many, and there's been praise for both the 562 and GR51 ...

Re: CT Reverb: York Model 91

I'm sure it was pristine and perfect when Dan finished it, but sure looks like someone wiped it down with paper towels (which can be surprisingly sandpaper-y on a finish like this). :red:

Dan's post-restoration pic is on his Completed Projects page. For some reason it won't appear when I try to ...

Re: Interesting chat with a Brazilian frankentuba builder

On FB I see various interesting horns from Brazil, for many of which I do not recognize the maker. They seem to take great pride in the appearance of their horns and take great care to keep them in good shape.

That left-hand 5th valve apparently goes for a lot.
