Venting Piston Valves
I am interested in having the pistons in my Besson 995 vented. I feel it would make slide adjustments easier. I would be able to make slide adjustments in anticipation of or after pressing the valves.
What are the negatives of piston valve venting? The rotors on my Rudy are already vented and I ...

Re: Maybe I’m late to the party on this hack
I've been using Wright Silver Cream for 20+ years. I've had the same tub for almost that long. It works really well. If I am not mistaken, @Matt Walters was the one who recommended it to me. I believe it even works on raw brass.

Re: Opinions on Raw Brass
Currently thinking of stripping the lacquer off the bell of my 632. I'm wondering what peoples general opinions are on raw brass vs lacquer.
Arguably doing it would be stupid for me(No lacquer issues currently on the bell, I just really enjoy the look of a raw brass bell).
How badly would this ...

Re: Best choices to support 55-60 member band
Willys my first tuba was a Cerveny 681 CC tuba that I got new in 1995. It was a nice horn with super smooth valves. Would I think of that horn as capable of holding down a band by myself? No. A few months ago I was the only tuba that show up to a rehearsal and i had to hold it down. I used my ...

Re: Valve Oil Preferences?
I've not had mineral oil slow down any small contact / small motion lubrication joints
Maybe the thing to do is just make sure that the mineral oil didn't migrate to the large air seal surfaces of the rotors. It's a bit too thick for those surfaces, whether it's pistons or rotors.
The idea with ...

Re: The One That ALMOST Got Away
Not that anyone cares besides me, but I've decided to invest more into the Rudi Meinl. I just ordered a Dillon AGR to have installed. The out-of-round receiver is just ever so slightly...well..out of round. So when playing the mouthpiece can wiggle loose. The AGR will address that AND give me ...

Re: The One That ALMOST Got Away
I had another awesome rehearsal with the Rudi Meinl yesterday. The more I play it, the more I absolutely love it. The tone is fantastic. The second valve lever is a game changer for achieving great intonation.

Did anyone get to play the Siermann Skylark (Hirsbrunner HB-2P clone)? I've been curious how they are.
