Re: National Symphony Orchestra of the Kennedy Center Principal Tubist
Living in Arlington, Virginia, is expensive, with costs over 60% higher than the national average. A single person generally needs roughly $60,000–$80,000+ annually to live comfortably, while a family of four often requires over $114,000–$200,000+. Housing is the main driver, with rent for a two ...

Re: Every once in awhile, I search eBay to see if any of my mouthpieces are for sale there...
Yesterday, someone bought a Sellmansburger mouthpiece from me. It was a local sale. Its for his new Cimbasso. He's the 3rd (or 4th?) owner of the mouthpiece. It is one of those silver plated brass with stainless rim ones

Re: Descriptions of tubas' playing characteristics
I don't have the greatest ear for intonation... but I got a lot better starting around 2019 when I got a class set of ukuleles and tuned them several times a day... and now reach beginning orchestra classes has only helped more. So I probably notice and care about intonation issues a lot more now ...

Yes. A rather neat horn. When you put it in shoulder mount mode, you swap the upper 1st and 3rd slides so they swap functions

I also have one, but just marked “52” and not Holton or Revelation or anything like that. It’s a massive, bottomless pit of a funnel, right?

Re: Schiller euphonium and F or EEb tubas
I have a Schiller euphonium… the cheapest 3+1 compensating model they offer. I think it is excellent. I believe it to be 99% the same as a Wessex or Mack Brass or many other of a list of made in china horns and made in the same factory, but the cheapest of those offered. Build quality seems plenty ...

Re: FS: Kanstul 80S 3/4 F
I had one of these for a few years. Very responsive (low C no problem). Really liked it. Switched to a Besson 983. The Kanstul was several shades darker than euphonium. The Besson is several shades darker than the Kanstul. My Holton is several shades darker than the Besson. All 3 are excellent tubas ...

Do you know which model that is on their site? Was it a good fit?MN_TimTuba wrote: Fri Oct 24, 2025 10:04 am When I had my 345 I used the Wessex bag made for their 345 clone. Minimal protection but very sturdy for backpack carry. I was happy with it
Good luck in your search.

Gig bag for Holton BB 345
Anyone have one? Anyone have recommendations for new ones? Not planning to buy a luxury one. Just want it to fit reasonably well and offer reasonable protection.

The new owner in Canada has received it. He reported that there was no damage. I shipped it via UPS- postage purchased via ShipStation. Shipped in the case in a Jupiter box (sousaphone I think) cut down to size and with 3-4 inches of styrofoam between the box and the bell part of the case.

bloke I recall you had an alternate bell for your Holton BBb that you never used? Lyon and Healy or some such. I’m sorry- mostly off topic, but I just wondering if anything ever happened with that
