Re: Eb Tuba Mouthpiece question
Easiest solution is to get the receiver reamed or swapped to standard American size, or if you wish, Euro size. Then you can use any standard mouthpiece. I had the same horn, and used either a DW 3 (small shank) or a DW ATU 4 with the shank turned down on a lathe, both worked really fine with the ho...

Re: LOL...Who else has one?
Maybe I should schedule mine for a "restoration"...or (as the Germans put it) a "Technische Überprüfung". You are referring to the one eBay seller from Poland, I guess?. I never understood why he is using these words. It just means that a "technical inspection" has bee...

Re: New plan for a BBb
Lovely - congrats. How do you get B natural and E natural with 2+4 in-tune ??? Much lipping down, or some other trick ?? Can you pull the 4th slide on a Cerveny 601 ?? I think those two sharp notes plus avoiding the akward 23 to 24 shift are the best reason for a 5th valve ...

Re: C or Bb ???
It would be hard to go wrong with a Miraphone 1291! It checks all your boxes. If cost is a factor, perhaps not. Thanks, yes, I know the Miraphone 1291 and 191 exist and check my boxes, but have never seen a used one near Denmark for sale. New price is prohibitive, unfortunately. ... I remember havi...

Re: C or Bb ???
@Rick Denney With FatBastard, the vast majority of the time when I'm using the fifth valve it is to play low E with 5-2-3 (to remedy the literal shortcomings of 2-4). It is nice, because I can just punch buttons and cut loose without reaching desperately for either the fourth slide or some second v...

Re: C or Bb ???
Willson made the 3100 which was a 5v Bb MW makes the Fafner with five valves Miraphone offers most all Bb offerings with a fifth valve option It’s probably easier to find a 5V C, but you’ll likely be far happier with a Bb in terms of finger management. Thanks for these pointers. Did not think of th...

Re: C or Bb ???
... I agree completely that there could be some bias. I also think that the slow downfall of King/Conn has led to an increase of demand on other mXxranufacturers. Yamaha is simply too expensive compared to other brands and isn’t winning bids like they used to. Interesting how a specific question ag...

Re: C or Bb ???
Yes, I am living in Copenhagen, Denmark. Classical musicians play almost exclusively F and C, amateurs often Eb and Bb, but also F and C. Played a concert today with a section consisting of a F B&S, my Eb MW, a Bb Yamaha 641, and a 6/4 Hirsbrunner C frontaction. Worked quite well. .... Problem i...

Looking for a 5/4 contrabass tuba, frontaction piston or rotary with 5 valves. I am used to play a MW 5v frontaction EB tuba, and like the concept. Have a Amati Bb 681 4v Rotary, but it is not so god in the lover register. And miss the 5th halve. Have seen a Weltklang 104 Bb with 5th valve, and an C...

Re: What are your favorite pieces for wind band?
We played a transcription of Carl Nielsen flute concerto done by Prof Mogens Andresen.
Itwas a bit weired but great fun. I enjoyed much playing the bass bone part, having a challenging, but. Great solo.

Re: Besson 15" bell satin silver Eb
Partial, there’s a term that’s always confused me and I’m not completely sure that everyone always uses the term in the same way. I’m figuring that the first partial is the lowest open note (peddle Eb in this case) and that it names the pitch of the instrument, the second is an octave above it, the...

Re: Besson 15" bell satin silver Eb
I had the 3 valve compensated 15 inch Besson New Standard version, heavy and build like a tank. It played OK in tune with a small shank DW 3 and even better in tune with a DW 4 mouthpiece. I loved the sound of it, used it for outdoor and marching music. The dipping intonation on some notes above the...
