I think your biggest blocker is your statement "I don't want to learn new fingerings"
You are restricting yourself unnessecarily here, cause it only takes a fresh mindset and a couple of weeks practise to learn a new transposition, or to learn bass clef in any of the 4 common tuba pitches.

Re: Bass trombone mouthpiece
I liked the piece, but hated the thin rim. I liked it better with the wider rim. Felt more like a euphonium mouthpiece.
Thats interesting. I have the opposite experience.
The best mouthpiece for my Yamaha euoh I did find, is none of the socalled typical euph pieces, but a stock Yamaha 58 and ...

Re: Repair hole inside port of piston valve
Thanks, good to know that soft solder will stick to the plated surface, it looks like nickel plating to me. Also good to know that modern replacement valves will work.
I am nor sure though if a solder blob will cover the hole, its about 3 mm large and very fragile on the rim of the hole. The port ...

Repair hole inside port of piston valve
I got an old beater Yamaha 321 Eb tuba, which I want to use for street music. Unfortunately, one of the piston ports did not survive cleaning with vinegre acid and a brush, it has a thin spot and a hole now inside the port.
Its one of the old pistons with metal guard, so I think I am out of luck ...

Re: How common are five-valve euphoniums (not DBE)
My experience with 5 valve Eb bass tuba is pretty much the oppsite than Mary Ann.
I play a MW 5+0 frontaction piston Eb tuba, where the 5th valve circuit is rotary, and the largest in diameter.
I never use false tones, the correct fingering (involving a 4th slide pull for F) speaks in all cases ...

This is the hard part. It's easy to find many sizes of round polished steel balls, but football shaped?
Where do you buy these?

Re: Side hustle vs hobby
If you pay to play, its an addiction. I am severely addicted to low brass playing. Comes with well known additional conditions as TAS ( tuba aquisition syndrome) LBP (low brass plumbing) and FWB (forgetting wifes birthday).. .. have to leave now for some tuba tooting. ..
