Bell Re-engraving
Is there anyone who does re-engraving? I have an old Buescher tuba that the engraving is barely visible anymore but it is very beautiful.

Re: my own comparison of the new-style King 2341 to the Eastman knock-off
Isn't this just a receiver gap discussion then? I thought the consensus was gap matters much less on tuba than on high brass like trumpet.
That's what I've been thinking all along as I've read through this mile-long thread. It's just yet another way manufacturers are trying to sell a more ...

Re: F tuba project started
Getting closer! Got everything soldered in place. Did a play test and the result is a success. The 5th valve is now independent and plays significantly more open than before when it was tied into the 4th valve. I’m very excited to see the end product in sight. Pardon my sloppy solder work, I have ...

Re: F tuba project started
I used O’Malley bending matrix. You can get it in powder form and blend with water to desired thickness. Then freeze it.

Re: F tuba project started
Update on project. Been busy lately so I haven't had a lot of time to put into this. Removed rotor from 4th circuit tubing and put in a temporary tube to fill in the space. Learning on a steep curve how to fill and bend tubing on a budget. Had to move and reroute some of the 4th tubing to make room ...

Re: F tuba project started
I believe I have found that the linkage for a Wessex Viverna tuba will be the right configuration for my project. I have contacted them to order it. We shall see.

F tuba project started
So…I have jumped into my F tuba 5th valve relocation project. I am moving my 5th valve on my Big Mouth Brass F. It is currently built into the 4th valve circuit which gives it stuffiness and lots of resistance when the 5th is used. I am going to move it after the 4th valve like most modern piston F ...

Source for 19 mm ID brass tubing
I am about to have a week off for spring break(hallelujah!) and want to start working on rebuilding my fourth valve on my F tuba. I am looking for a source for 19 mm ID brass tubing. By my best guesstimate, I will need lengths of about 48" to play with. I have repaired many horns but this is my ...

Re: Buescher 3v BBb
The pitch is quite good. It is indicated "LP" low pitch but it sits just right on a tuner at 440. I haven't noticed any obvious work done to it to change the tuning if it was actually low at some point. I didn't think to take out the valves and look at the plating. Will do that later when I get home ...

Re: Buescher 3v BBb
Thanks. I think the this will be a good restoration project. It appears to have been satin silver with bright silver logo and inner bell. Plays pretty well as-is but I think there’s a small leak somewhere. Bell has been removed at some point and there’s some patch work from the large bell flair ...

Buescher 3v BBb
I obtained an old Buescher tuba this weekend from a former student. Appears to be a very cool piece of history. Does anyone know how to find the year of manufacture? SN: 73324

BMB F mods
I shortened the 1st and 4th slides this evening. I am surprised what a difference it made. The MTS should be out about an inch on this horn generally. However when valve combinations are added, they are significantly flat. At least they were! I agree with Joe that this was meant to be a Eb tuba. Now ...

Re: Parts for tuning slide kicker
I bought this tuba from Sam Gnagey. But I think you are onto something. I think most of the slides are too long, which is why the tuning slide needs to be in all the way on most notes. The fundamental F is sharp this way, which would be one of the notes that need to be pushed out roughly an inch ...

Parts for tuning slide kicker
Hey y'all! I want to install a spring-loaded tuning slide pusher, similar to a euphonium tuning slide trigger, but in a straight line motion. I have tried doing this the manual way(aka. no spring help) and it requires too much work. I installed a rod from behind the first valve slide down to the ...
