Horrible comment...a beautiful, historical location...

Re: Where to Study the Tuba?

I also disagree with the proposed rule. It is arbitrary and disregards individuals' goals, interests, choices, and life situations. I'm sure many construction workers outearned me in my early years teaching public school. Should my alma mater be punished for my career choice? Is "success" only ...

Re: Where to Study the Tuba?

Life is short. I recommend that he go for it if it's what he really wants to do. He should do it with full knowledge of the difficulties and statistical (un)likelihood of success. Generally, when people have a fallback, they will fall back. Falling back means not becoming a pro player. He needs to ...

Re: "Mass/weight changes how a brass instrument mouthpiece plays an instrument."

This player shows the effects of extreme weight on a trumpet mouthpiece. The most noticeable things I noticed were firmer slots and more presence heard by the audience.

Interesting!

I had the great fortune of taking his Brass Performance and Pedagogy class at Northwestern. Great teacher and fine gentleman.

Re: Army Tuba Conference schedule

My favorite one on Thursday was the Miami Low Frequency Ensemble. Really fun material and the euphonium players had serious skills.

Re: Small guy, big tuba

Good point about the benefits of playing multiple instruments- it sounds like cross training. There are skills that transfer. I saw that when, as a school band director, I would play different instruments with the kids. It was good for me.

Re: Small guy, big tuba

Actually, I'm also playing my Eb in my community band now. I use a tuba stand, but of course, it's one more thing to carry around. My son just acquired a Kaiser BBb that is 10 inches taller and weighs just a few pounds more. Lots of options out there. For me, I just need to make time to relearn how ...

Re: Small guy, big tuba

Retired school band director here. I think your own size is not that relevant to the size of the tuba you want to play. A tuba stand enables a player to lower the tuba to your comfortable position. There are some bigger tubas that are not that heavy. It's mostly a matter of getting used to it and ...

Re: Gig bag for unbranded Eb

I have the same needs as claf. Besson, same height, 15" bell. I'm trying to avoid getting one to fit a 19" bell because I don't want the unnecessary bulk. Anyone know which bag or case fits the 15"?

The timing with the flyover was cool, too. Too bad I'm 1322 miles away. At least the mics captured the tuba sound so prominently.
