Name that Tuba

So...I was watching the 1952 film, The Stars and Stripes Forever with Clifton Webb and Robert Wagner... And there I was staring at a 7 valve tuba. It sure looks to be a contrabass to me. Anyone have any idea what it is/was? I know I sure wouldn't want to have to bend a replacement lead pipe for it! ...

Re: Tuba Tuesday: Distin, B flat euphonium, 3 piston, c.1904

I have a Lyon & Healy that has 377 as a serial number on the velve set. The bell has 377 on the bell, but has a 2 tacked on the end, just a tiny bit off kilter to make 377 2 . My working theory is that the horn was made as 377 (c.1900), but for some reason either didn't leave the factory or was ...

I think that’s great that you had it for 26 years.

That is great @the elephant ! To have someone that can listen (over time) and give such detailed and insightful commentary must be very useful.

Glad you're back!

Re: M-W adjustable thumb ring

FINGERS CROSSED, I am able to purchase a ring from Voigt. I spoke with Martin directly and he is willing to send one to me. So, this ring will go on my other tuba, and the one I scrounged together from here will go on my Holton. I “think” I have a Holton 340 thumb ring if you need it. No promise bu...

That's a good looking sousaphone (condition wise),especially considering that its spent its whole life in a school.

Nice work.

Do tell? (Or PM if you'd like). I thought about ordering these for my CB50, but hesitated.
Yes please, I’m thinking seriously about a King 2341/Conn 56j set.

I have one of the 'holster' harnesses that I'd trade someone for the 'regular'. It works fine, but isn't my cup of tea.

That’s a Martin “medium” BBb. It will have about a 20” bell. Just slightly bigger (all around) that a new style King 2341.

The one I had sounded gorgeous.

Wish it were within driving distance as I’d buy it in a heartbeat!

Re: wars and rumors of wars

I offer lessons via email. Send the gift cards and then email me what's giving you trouble. Never mind... I'm going to buy a new tuba. You probably don’t need a new tuba. I suspect just buying a new mouthpiece will fix everything for at least a couple hours. Again, send gift cards and I’ll send you...

Re: York Tuba, sister horn to “the” York

Pulling another thread back out of the cellar: Seeing this old York CC reminded me of this video of a Mr. Rogers show, where Harold McDonald (Pittsburgh Symphony) plays part of Die Meistersinger. His was made in 1937 and was the one pictured on Rick Denney ’s website and then was owned by Robert Tuc...

Looking good!

My first impressions:

picture #1: happy owner
picture #6: unhappy repairman

One or both of those statements may be untrue, but those first impressions made me laugh.

CONN-gratulations!
